HDFC bank users can link the RuPay credit card with UPI Apps

HDFC is the first Indian private sector bank to allow its customers to use their RuPay credit card on UPI.

Up until last year, users linked their savings account to UPI, where the payment used to be debited. Now, users can link their HDFC Rupay credit card to their UPI ID for easy and quick payment transactions.

HDFC credit card holders can add their card details to the UPI app (BHIM and other UPI-enabled apps) and choose an account option while scanning a QR code to make a purchase.

“With HDFC Credit Card being linked to the UPI network, we give our customers the opportunity to enjoy ease while making digital payments,” said Parag Rag, Country Head, Consumer Finance, Payments Business, Digital Banking, and Marketing. “We ensure that our customers use the best options that suit their needs,” he said.

“This move would be a game changer for the ecosystem and uplift the usage of UPI by companies,” said Praveena Rai, NPCI’s (National Payment Corporation of India) Chief Operating Officer.

As per the National Payment Corporation of India, merchants would not be charged for using RuPay credit card transactions on UPI below Rs.2000. This step would fuel economic growth by promoting digital payments.

These are the following steps for how users can link the card with the UPI app:

  • Download the app from the Play Store/App Store
  • Select the card option after completing the registration process.
  • Select the option for your credit card’s bank.
  • Fill in your mobile number.
  • Tap to confirm the option.
  • Create a UPI PIN

These are the following steps for how users can make payments after linking the card with UPI:

  • Scan the QR code
  • Enter the payment amount
  • Choose the Rupay Credit Card option

  • Your payment will be successful

These are other banks that also provide you with the option to link the Rupay card with UPI, including Union Bank of India, Indian Bank, and Punjab National Bank.
